what came first,
words or pictures?

… it depends.

When adapting the writings of a Roman Emperor you would assume the words came first since they were written centuries ago.

However, when I made a zine about Marcus Aurelius the pictures were drawn long before I got around to reading his book Meditations.

Previously I had been sketching what I like to call – mindscapes. Contemplative landscapes that, as it turns out, work well when placed in context with philosophical writing.
